I would never do any business with these guys. I booked a trip for three days of fishing. My flights got cancelled and I gave Carlos three days of notification that I could not make it. He would not give me any break whatsoever on the entire trip. I paid for the entire thing and was never there. Please don't deal with these people if you don't have to.

We were very happy with Yellowknife Outdoor Adventures.

Carlos (the owener) organized our vacation (booked hotel, gave us an initial city tour, set us up with dog sledding tour with Becks, took us our for aurora viewing 2 nights, and supplied us with winter clothing).

The hotel that he booked, Explorer Hotel was very good and the clothing that he provided was warm enough for the sub -30 weather.

The best part of the experience is the aurora viewing. You get to ride a snowmobile to his cabin (about 30min ride), which is a LOT cooler & more fun than taking a bus. Throughout the snowmobile ride, he has a safety first mentality, which is good as we are first timers. The cabin experience was great. Its really warm inside, and each couple in the tour has their own table to put their stuff. There's also a bunch of seats near the fire. And lots of viewing areas. He even showed me the proper settings for the camera and lent me a tripod! He provides cocoa and snacks (including venison that he hunted himself, which was delicious). He also provides some interesting and funny conversation throughout the night. We ended up seeing the lights one of the 2 nights.

      Highly recommend!

My bf and I had a wonderful time with Carlos. We went at the end of january. This is a very intimate company as it is owned and toured by Carlos himself! For the prior review that said they only sat and waited...it doesn't matter who you go with...you SIT AND WAIT to see the aurora. The first night we went with a bigger more commercialized group tour with another company and really we sat and waited with nothing to do as well...it's all about being in the amazing outdoors enjoying your company and surroundings.

Anyway, we booked the snowmobile tour with Carlos and some other tour members cancelled so it was only carlos, myself and my bf. I was impressed, even with just 2 people Carlos still took us out to the cabin and did not skimp on taking care of us. The snowmobile was AWESOME, it was about a 30 min ride across the frozen lake and you get to ride your own snowmobile. Carlos took the time to make sure our helmets fit well before and that we all had proper face masks before going. What was very nice was he stopped halfway to the cabin to make sure we could see thru our helmet masks as he was afraid our masks fogged up and we couldn't see or wipe with our thick mittens. This was so much better than riding a big school bus out to the wilderness to see the aurora.

The cabin itself was very cozy but spacious. He lit a fire for us and showed us around. There were many areas including a deck and some seating area for guests to see the aurora. Unfortunately the visibility on the day we went was poor so we didn't get to see the aurora, but imagine if we did see it...it would have been less rowdy and less commotion than w going w a large group of more than 100 ppl (we did that the night before). While waiting anyway to see if conditions got better Carlos told us many personal stories. He even cooked us some self hunted deer meat.

We had a great time with Carlos and would totally book our Aurora viewing tours with him again. The snowmobile ride is absolutely worth it. Other larger companies may be well advertised but u lose the personalization and intimacy! If we were to come back we definitely will book our tours with Carlos again!

Fyi, this was only our first time travelling to see the aurora. You must have patience and know that you might not see it at all. We were lucky we saw it the first night...but really we waited from 9 to about 1230 before seeing specks of lights, and even that was evanescent. Do not blame the tour group or company that they keep you there for that amount of time, it shouldn't be a majority rules here, everyone paid good money and even if one person wants to wait it out that should be honored.

Carlos runs this tour himself and is professional and reminds me of a real outdoors man- not all smiley and cheery but authentic and kind underneath the gruff exterior. Honest and hard working in a rather harsh environment His equipment is clean, well maintained and he takes responsibility for keeping his guests safe. He provides a very nice experience and I would definitely book with him again and refer my friends to him. The cabin is warm and there is a toilet and the view is great. Out of all the tours I did, this one really stood out. Definitely recommend

What a great morning of fishing! Carlos catered to my kids and didn't charge for the laughs! Highly recommend. He even accommodated our dogs:) Thanks for everything.

Biggest fish of the day caught by my 9 year old!

We booked a nighttime aurora-viewing snowmobile tour through Yellowknife Outdoor Adventures. Since it was snowing and of course super-cloudy, we knew there wasn't much chance of us seeing the aurora on this night. That was fine though; we'd just enjoy the snowmobile ride out to the business's cabin outside of town since we couldn't cancel at this point. We were told to be at the storefront at 9PM but the bus with the others on the tour didn't arrive till after 9:30, so we waited. Once we received a quick verbal informational session about driving the snowmobile, we went out to it and sat there for about 30 minutes while waiting for everyone to get on, etc. So it was about 10PM when we left. Got to the cabin about 10:30PM. The cabin consists of a big open room with a heating stove, kitchen area, and tables and chairs. Carlos put some wafer cookies on the bar in the kitchen and later brought out some frozen chicken nuggets he heated up. He also made us hot tea or hot cocoa. Then, we sat. We sat and sat, and looked at each other. Some were falling asleep. There was nothing to do since there was no chance of seeing the lights. Sure, some played cards but there were truly limited options of what to do. At about 11:30PM when we had been sitting there for an hour, I asked Carlos when we were heading back. He informed me that it's a four-hour tour, of which I hadn't been made aware. He said we'd leave at 12:15-12:30 (with kind of an attitude. We finally left about 12:40AM. Perhaps when there truly is a small chance of seeing the lights (it was snowing HARD all night), the guide could take a tally and see if everyone wants to head back sooner than planned... I bet they would have. Also, there seemed to be another guide there as well... maybe he could have taken those who wanted to leave back? This was truly a boring night. If necessary to stay the entire time, there should be more options of activities. Also, perhaps be a bit nicer with your guests. We paid a lot of money to you.
